Many readers of the Allen Advocate will remember the old crank telephones that hung on a wall. They served their purpose for a time. What I remember about them was that they must have been difficult for a person to hear good on them, especially if someone from a party line was connected and listening to your conversation. I heard my dad many times holler into the phone or ask the nosy listener to get off the line. For some reason I never wanted to use that phone, Anyway, it was so high on the wall, I would have had to get a chair to be able to use it. Though I never used it, I can still remember our number, 1608f12, on the party line, our number was two longs rings and a short ring. Anyone remember what two letters Allen had to start the local phone numbers?

The Allen men will face Velma Alma on Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the regional tournament at 2:30. A win will bring them back Friday afternoon. The Lady Mustangs will meet up with Wrights City at 6 pm Friday for a chance to punch their ticket to State Tournament. Tournament bracket inside The Advocate. The 93-15 victory secured the Lady Mustangs 23 district title, according to Allen sports historian Steven Bullard. The Allen/Clayton game was virtually over within minutes of the opening tip with Allen outscoring their opponent 40-0 in the first quarter. The Allen girls sank 17 three pointers in a rout , which is more than Clayton had total points (15) All five Allen starters reached double figures in a balanced offensive attack.

The Allen men brought home their 30th district championship home after an 81-44 win over Keota on our home floor Saturday. The Mustangs were very efficient on the offensive side of the game hitting 70% of the 2 point field goals, 35% from three-point land and a perfect 4 for 4 at the charity stripe. Allen also held a huge advantage on the glass pulling down 33 rebounds and had 26 assists! The difference in the game may have been the Mustangs dominance in the paint outscoring Keota 50-10 from close range. “We had a pretty good game, we found the open man and he connected,” said Coach Greg Mills.
