A Friday night trip to Stonewall brought a win for the Lady Mustangs and return on Saturday for the Allen men. After the girls contest the power to Stonewalls gym was lost and the boys contest was moved to Saturday In a close opening quarter the Allen girls held a 2-point lead. The second quarter the Allen offense kicked into gear outscoring the Lady Longhorns 21-6 . The rest of the game was more of the same as Allen Lady Mustangs won 76-38. The girls shot a whooping 60.5% from the field and had 20 steals in the game Cherish Woodward 21 points 8 rebounds Kryslyn Stephens 14 points, 10 rebounds Addison Prentice 13 points , 6 rebounds Kayla Nickell 9 points, 4 steals Kaylee Davis 9 points, 8 rebounds Stoney Cully 6 points 4 steals Dextry Bowerman 4 points, 3 rebounds The Allen men battled from 13 point deficient to take the win 55-51 over conference rival Stonewall on Saturday. The Mustangs grabbed 7 more defense board and outscored the Longhorns 30-16 in the paint to secure the victory in the last minutes of the game. Number 6 in Class 2A Ladies from Latta came to town to face Allen #8 in Class A and it proved to be a great battle. A battle that the Lady Mustangs won 55-49. At the half both teams hit the locker room knotted at 28 and remained tied at the end of the third quarter. Allen outscored the Lady Panthers 16-10 to pull out the exciting win. The Lady Mustangs were hot from the field hitting 58 % of their shots compared to Latta’s 45%. The three-point arc was a hot spot for both teams, but Allen made 10 of 25 for 40 % while Latta took 20 shots and connected on 6. Allen also held the free shot edge hitting 76.5% of their 17 trips while Latta had 18 free shots and hit 11. Addison Prentice had the shooters eye scoring 24 points including 18 points from the threepoint line; Stoney Cully hit double figures with 12 points and had 4 assists. Kaylee Davis 9 points, Kryslyn Stephens 6, Cherish Woodward 4. “It was a big game for us, playoffs start next week, and we need tough games to get us ready for what’s coming up. Latta always brings a good team, and I am excited our girls got the win, they have been working hard getting ready for games like this,” said Coach Dottie Slabaugh.
