Read moreAs the United States nears the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the Daughters of the American Revolution initiated Project 250 in commemoration. In conjunction, the Chimney Hill Chapter, Ada, bought books about the American Revolution and the Constitution for each elementary school library in Pontotoc County. Read moreThe death penalty is being sought by Pontotoc County District Attorney Erik Johnson for Richard Dewayne Chambers. Chambers is accused of killing local residents Robert and Jackie Peliti at their home west of Allen in a December crime spree that began in Midwest City. “I believe that Richard Chambers is a continuing threat to society,” Johnson said. “I believe that based upon that fact that he killed Annie Brown in Midwest City, crossed jurisdictional lines, and came to Pontotoc County and killed Robert and Jackie Peliti. That act alone warrants the highest punishment that my office can provide.” According to Johnson, this is the first death penalty that’s been sought in Pontotoc County in more than 20 years.
